Progressive Story 31
Your class will be writing ONE group paragraph(s) for the story (not each student). The first class will write the intro paragraph(s). Then the next class will read the paragraph(s) and decide how they want to continue the story. This will continue until the last class on the list writes the ending and gives the story a title. Your paragraph(s) will be typed onto this Wiki page. You will also need to send (email as .jpg) the 3 pictures to me. The pictures should illustrate events in the section that your class wrote.

Please visit the Instructions Page for more information.

If you would like to share any contact information please feel free to add it to the chart. This way your classes have a chance to actually "meet" some of the students that collaborate on their story.

Please feel free to make corrections to your name/school/location or add the names of teachers if you are working with someone on this project.

Title (given by the last class to write): The Curse of Polamalu

Type your story here:

Our small village is located on the island of Maui in Hawaii. It is called Polamalu. Our population is approximately 350 people. Polamalu is so small, we don’t even have a mall. Most of our inhabitants live in huts or soddies. The crop that we grow and export is pineapples. Every year at the end of fall and the beginning of winter, a big storm comes to our village. This storm creates massive floods because it overflows all our bodies of water. Throughout the years we have taken action to protect our village. Some of the actions have been: storing our food, water, and weapons in a place where the waters can’t destroy them and travel to higher ground and wait out the storm. We also have grown large trees and created stone walls for protection. When the storm arrives, it feels like a hurricane. Every year during this period, our population drops. If you do survive, you struggle to stay alive. Our huts and soddies cave in, trees uproot and our crops are destroyed. It’s now two months before the storm comes, if our solutions did not work, what will? Is this a curse? or just a force of nature?

We did have a mall before our population dropped, but it was cursed, so eventually one of the storms destroyed it. Anyway, the curse was caused by a man named Henry. Henry was an evil man and he disapproved of every good choice we islanders made. The police decided it was best for Henry to go to jail, where he almost died although everyone thought he did. Yet his curse stayed with our small island. One day when we were preparing for the arriving storm, we heard a loud "Crash" in the direction of the jail, which we thought was the storm even though it was much too early. We looked over and instead we saw Henry (completely alive) making a break for it. He was escaping from jail! With Henry's departure, the curse might leave with him!

We decided to hold an emergency village meeting to discuss how we will capture Henry. We decided his fate!! He will be captured and shipped to Alcatraz, which is 2,325 miles away from Polamalu. At first, we had one problem...who would be brave enough to take him there? Everyone agreed that Captain Muscles and his sidekick Professor Smarts will be the captains of the ship. To capture Henry, we had to be smart. Professor Smarts' brains came in handy. He decided to create a maze around the edge of the island. The maze ended up trapping Henry and we were able to successfully get him onto the ship. While on the ship, we encountered many different mystical creatures. These creatures helped us along the way.....

One of the creatures we met on our journey was LuLu, the koala dragon. Koala dragons, as we quickly found out, eat the crazy swimming panda bears that are found in great supply in the waters surrounding Alcatraz. Had LuLu not been there, the craziest swimming panda of them all, YoYo, would have surely eaten us alive!

Another mystical creature we encountered was the Funky Griffin, whose name was Button. Button nearly died protecting us from disaster when evil fire-breathing demons stormed our ship and threatened our lives. Apparently, the magical fruitcake, which is found only in the garden of Adam and Eve, had to be eaten by Button to ward-off the angry demonic creatures. We are still indebted to him for his services to us.

The last, and most mystical creatures of them all, were the Magic Elves. The Magic Elves not only breathed fire (much like the demons we came across), but they also had special toys they had made that enabled them to defeat the ferocious shark-eating mermaids that were surrounding our ship as we neared Alcatraz.

Once we got to the atrociously isolated island, we unshackled Henry long enough to get him off the boat and into a cell. However, when Henry stepped off the boat, his body turned to dust, and nobody has ever seen him since. To this day, Polamalu is the sunniest island in the world, and no trace of Henry has been found since that day at Alcatraz. Every now and then, though, when the wind blows, if you listen very closely, you can still hear the faint voice of Henry crying out for help.
