Progressive Story 4
Your class will be writing ONE group paragraph(s) for the story (not each student). The first class will write the intro paragraph(s). Then the next class will read the paragraph(s) and decide how they want to continue the story. This will continue until the last class on the list writes the ending and gives the story a title. Your paragraph(s) will be typed onto this Wiki page. You will also need to send (email as .jpg) the 3 pictures to me. The pictures should illustrate events in the section that your class wrote.

Please visit the Instructions Page for more information.

If you would like to share any contact information please feel free to add it to the chart. This way your classes have a chance to actually "meet" some of the students that collaborate on their story.

Please feel free to make corrections to your name/school/location or add the names of teachers if you are working with someone on this project.

Part One:

It was just another typical day in Room 15, at least they thought. Yesterday, the class had gone on a field trip to the Central Park Zoo and studied different animals. Mr. Mitchell had a special announcement, “We are going to have a new student in class!” The students were all really excited. The children waited all morning for her to arrive, but she didn’t join them until recess.

Finally, the new student came. Judy was small, shy, and playful. All she wanted to do on the playground was climb and swing on the monkey bars. Later during math class, Mr. Mitchell asked, “What is 5+5?” Judy couldn’t wait to answer because she raised her hand and said, “Ooo ooo, aaa aaa!”

During lunch, all Judy had in her lunch box was bananas – 3 whole bananas! Susie was sitting across from her and pulled out her own banana. But, Judy jumped for it and gobbled the entire thing up! Bob turned to Susie and said, “Did I just see a tail on Judy?” “No way!” said Susie. “It’s probably just your eyes playing tricks on you because you broke your glasses at the zoo!”

The next day at recess, Bob was on the monkey bars and saw hair all over Judy. Once Bob saw the hairs, he ran directly over to Susie who was playing hopscotch. Bob whispered, “Susie! I saw hair all over Judy!” Susie said, “Oh, Bob! It must be a hair problem!”

Since no one was playing with Judy, Susie decided to go on the monkey bars with her. Soon they became friends, even though Judy never said too much. Susie began inviting Judy over to her house to play. When the girls arrived at Susie’s house one day, her mom was watching a special on monkeys. Judy started to go bananas and was jumping up and down on the furniture.

Judy had Susie over one day as well. Susie thought it was a little odd when she got to Judy’s house – it was up in a tree! Judy’s mom, Mrs. Vine, was kind and made them banana bread. However, Susie never met Mr. Vine. He stayed in his office all day. When Susie walked by, she peeked in the crack of the door. All she saw was banana peels and hairy feet!

When Susie went to school the next day she went to talk to Bob about what happened at Judy’s house. She told Bob she saw banana peels all over the office and Judy’s dad had hairy feet. They both decided this was a mystery that had to be solved. They made a plan. They looked across the playground to find Judy she was not playing on the monkey bars like she usually did, but she was climbing the trees. She was getting very high in the tree very quickly. Susie went over and told her to stay off the trees before she fell down and got hurt.

Susie had Judy come over to her house after school. She wanted to get to know her new friend better and see if she could figure out what was going on. They walked into Susie’s house and kicked off their shoes right away and ran to get a snack. While eating their snacks Susie’s mom told them she was going to take them somewhere fun that night. The girls were very excited!

They got in the car and started driving. Where were they going? After 20 minutes of riding, they pulled in to the parking lot of… the zoo!

As soon as the car pulled into the parking lot Susie, her mum and Judy could hear the chattering and screeching of the monkeys. Judy was so excited she couldn’t wait to get out of the car. Susie’s mum said, “Calm down, we’ll see the snow monkeys soon.” But Judy couldn’t wait. She ran through the gate of Central Park Zoo and didn’t stop when Susie’s mum called her name.

Judy ran past the sea lions and through the Central Garden. She didn’t even stop to look at the polar bears. She kept running until she got to the rocky island home of the snow monkeys. Quick as a flash Judy climbed over the fence and leaped into the pond around the snow monkeys’ island. She swam across and climbed up the rocks onto the island. The snow monkeys screeched and screamed to welcome Judy to their island home. Judy wasn’t frightened. She was so excited that she started to scream and screech with the monkeys. She ran around in circles, climbed the trees and swung on the vines. She even ate bananas.

Susie and her mum were very worried that they had lost Judy at the zoo. They asked everyone they met if they had seen Judy. But they had no luck, nobody had seen her. Suddenly they heard a commotion at the snow monkeys’ rocky island. Susie looked up and saw....

Judy taking off her t-shirt and blue jeans. Underneath she had fur, a tail, and hairy feet! Judy turned out to be a monkey after all!
Susie said, “ What? She’s a monkey!! That’s really weird!”

All of the monkeys did the banana splits and started to go bananas! Judy was very happy to be back at the zoo.
It all added up! Judy had been kidnapped at birth by Mr. and Mrs. Vine and raised as their little girl.

Susie said, “ Goodbye, Judy. See you next time at the zoo!”
