Then the next class will read the paragraph(s) and decide how they want to continue the story. This will continue until the last class on the list writes the ending and gives the story a title. Your paragraph(s) will be typed onto this Wiki page. You will also need to send (email as .jpg) the 3 pictures to your Teacher Leader. The pictures should illustrate events in the section that your class wrote.

Title: WHIZ...SPLAT


The sun was setting on a beautiful farm on the outskirts of sunny Bismarck, North Dakota. Tyler and his sister, Ella decided to get ready for bed. Tyler and Ella started putting away their toys, including their favorite hockey player action figure, the robot seal and walrus, and their newest toy a monkey that wears skates, into their toy box. They had just turned off the lights in their bedroom when suddenly…they could hear their toy box lid start to creak open. They both sat up quickly in bed and looked at each other with very wide eyes.

Ella slowly slips from the covers of the bed and cautiously walks to the door to turn on the lights. Tyler follows Ella but accidentally trips over something on the floor. It is the monkey with skates. “How did that get here?” exclaimed Tyler, “I thought I put that away.” Tyler slowly bends down to pick up the toy when he hears a loud “Oo oo aha aha” coming from the monkey. “AAGGGHHH!” shouts Tyler. “Ella, that monkey just talked.” Ella hastily tells Tyler he must be hearing things and turns on the lights. In the light, Ella and Tyler see toys, that they had picked up before bed scattered across the bedroom floor. The hockey player action figures are on the desk and there seems to be a hockey game going on. Pencils are being used as sticks and a small eraser as a puck. Not all the toys are out though; the robot seal and the walrus have stayed behind and are watching everything from the toy box. They are the guardians of the secret passage way.

Thinking they were dreaming, Ella and Tyler turned off the lights and crawled back under the covers. They awoke several minutes later to a faint sound: WHIZ...SPLAT! They jumped up, switched on the light, and saw no sign of their toys anywhere. Hearing that strange sound again, WHIZ...SPLAT, they headed to the toy box and peered inside. A ladder leading down a pitch black hole was the only thing they could see. Ella and Tyler hopped into the toy box and climbed down the ladder until they reached the bottom (or so they thought). In the distance they saw a small flickering light, and walked slowly towards it. The robot seal and walrus hiding nearby were firing at the intruders with a catapult spoon full of peas, WHIZ...SPLAT!

Narrowly escaping a face full of peas, the freaked out duo decide to climb back up the ladder. However, when they turned around the ladder had disappeared into thin air! Ella and Tyler realize that their only choice is to be brave and defeat the catapult. Moving down the tunnel using their pajamas as shields, they reach the room with the flickering light. When they enter the small room, the robot seal and the walrus are about to reload the catapult with fava beans. When the robot seal and the walrus see the children they immediately stop what they are doing.

The robot approaches the children and to Tyler and Ella’s surprise, speaks. “I see you have fallen into our trap.” Shocked Tyler replies, “We came to investigate the mysterious sounds coming from our toy box.” Ella questions the walrus and robot seal, How in the world are you talking?! You are just toys!” WHIZ…SPLAT. As Tyler and Ella turn to see where the noise was coming from, a fava bean slams into each of their faces. POOF! Tyler and Ella noticed they were suddenly shrinking down to the size of the toys. As the credits begin to roll, Patrick and Kate jump out of their movie theater seats and remove their 3D glasses. “WOW! I hope there is a sequel to the movie ‘WHIZ…SPLAT!’” exclaims Patrick. Kate replies, “I hope that doesn’t happen to us!”
