Your class will be writing ONE group paragraph(s) for the story (not each student). The first class will write the intro paragraph(s). Then the next class will read the paragraph(s) and decide how they want to continue the story. This will continue until the last class on the list writes the ending and gives the story a title. Your paragraph(s) will be typed onto this Wiki page. You will also need to send (email as .jpg) the 3 pictures to your Teacher Leader. The pictures should illustrate events in the section that your class wrote.

Please visit the Instructions Page for more information.

If you would like to share any contact information please feel free to add it to the chart. This way your classes have a chance to actually "meet" some of the students that collaborate on their story.

Please feel free to make corrections to your name/school/location or add the names of teachers if you are working with someone on this project.

The Maple Leaf Hat That Changed the World

Start your story here:

Once upon a time, there was a brown beaver named "Justin Beaver" that wore a baseball cap with a red maple leaf on it. It became so popular that his other animal friends the chipmunk, the Canada goose, and the moose, also wanted one. He decided to start a company making hats with this logo on it. Because he thought he was such a good singer (even though he wasn't), he wrote a jingle in order to help sell his hats.

The song was very catchy and went like this

" Beaver, Beaver, Beaver, ohhhh

like Beaver, Beaver, Beaver, ohhhh,

like buy my, buy my, buy my hats".

At first, the song was an immediate success and the other animals started singing the song. Although they enjoyed the song, they couldn't stand Justin Beaver's voice and looked for ways that they could get someone else to sing the song.

The chipmunk, the Canada goose, and the moose, decided that they would host "Beaver Idol" in order to look for a replacement for Justin Beaver. With the symbol on the baseball hat being a red maple leaf the perfect place to host the auditions was in Niagara Falls, Ontario. They send invitations out to all of the famous musical animal including Lady Gopher, Michael Jackrabbit, The Barenaked Ladybugs, Beaveroncé, Taylor Swan, The Mice Girls, Black Eyed Bees, Selina Goosemez, and Hannah Moosetana.

The red carpet is out for all the “Beaver Idol” contestants. Fans are lined up to see who the contestants will be and the reporters are waiting to see what everyone is wearing. First to come down the carpet are the Black Eyed Bees who are all dressed in black tuxedos with tiny yellow bow ties. They are closely followed by Taylor Swan and Hannah Moosetana. Taylor is wearing a long satin white gown with a crown of black diamonds which shows off her beautiful long neck. Hannah, however, is in a drab brown gown that does nothing to show off her antlers. What was she thinking! Meanwhile, many of the other contestants are already backstage waiting to sing their specially prepared songs. Let’s go inside to meet our judges. The judges for this special event are Randy Jack Russell, Simon Cow, and Steven Ty-ger Shark with special host, Ryan Seamonkeys. They should be in for a treat with all this great talent on the stage tonight.
The contestants are all prepared to sing their own jingles to sell Justin Beaver’s famous maple leaf hats. Here comes Ryan! the crowds cheers as Ryan says, "Hello everyone. Tonight is promising to be an exciting night. So let's get started. First up to sing are the Black Eyed Bees with “Gotta Get that Hat".”
The music starts—BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Gotta get that hat hat hat,
Gotta get that that that.
Gotta get your Beaver hat, hat, hat!
The crowd goes wild, but the judges do not seem impressed…

“Great performance by the Black Eyed Bees” said Ryan Seamonkeys. “Next up, is Beaveroncé, singing her latest hit “All the Single Hats”.

Beaveroncé waltzes out wearing a black long sleeved leotard, with shiny gold rings on her paws. She slowly approaches the microphone in front of the crowd, shivering with anticipation. Her heart was pounding like a drum. The DJ dims the lights, fog fills the stage, and the jumpy music starts playing. The spotlight shines on Beaveroncé and she grabs the mic and pauses. A fan yells impatiently “just sing already!” and she follows the command….

“If you like it then you should have put a hat on it
Oh, if you like it then you should have put a hat on it
Don’t be mad once you see because it’s awesome
If you like it then you should have put a hat on it”

When the jingle comes to an end, fans flood the stage with roses. The judges were impressed by the song. Randy Jack Russell is called first to comment. He sighs, and yells “Yo dog that was amazing”. Beaveroncé replies “Well actually I am a beaver, not a dog”. Simon Cow responds next in a heavy British accent and says “The melody was great, but you lacked beat.”

Beaveroncé starts to get tears in her eyes, so Ryan Seamonkeys comes dashing out, wearing a red maple leaf hat. “Great job Beaveroncé. Remember folks, lines will be open after the show until 10:00 p.m.”, says Ryan.

Ryan gets ready to announce the last and final act…..

“Everybody get ready for Taylor Swan.” says, Ryan Sea Monkey. The crowd goes wild. The lights dim and change color. Taylor’s black diamonds sparkle and glow as the lights shine. She rises onto the stage. She begins singing her hit song, “Hat to Burn”.

Burn, burn, burn, baby, burn

You're just another hat to burn

Baby, burn...

The crowd is singing along. As Taylor Swan finishes the song, the crowd cheers. The judges are impressed and they give her a standing ovation. Randy Jack Russell is the first to speak. “That was impressive. Another hat to burn is just what I need.” Simon Cow is next, “Mootastic. Actually, that was Swantastic!”, and Steven Ty-ger Shark says, “Great song. I want it on my iPod”.

Ryan Seamonkey says, “This has been the best show of the night. Hope to see all of you again soon. Good night everybody.”

As Taylor Swan leaves the stage she trips on her beautiful, long, white, satin, gown. Luckily, she is caught by Selina Goosemez. After Selina makes sure that Taylor is okay, she runs onto the stage, “Wait! Wait! I have a song to sing!” But Ryan Seamonkey says, “I’m sorry. We’ve run out of time.”

Taylor Swan says, “But you must give her a chance. She saved my life.”

So Ryan Seamonkey and the judges said, "No way! There is no time!" Taylor Swan exclaimed, "I insist! Please let her sing." Simon Cow moos, "Well, if we let her sing, we then have to let EVERYONE sing. It is only fair!"

The rest of the crowd cheers as all of the contestants come on stage. They gather together and discuss their jingle. Michel Jackrabbit moonwalks on stage and leads them bellowing:

The judges scream, "It looks like we have a winner...or oodles of winners!" You all win. The jingle you sang together was the bomb diggity!" Ryan Seamonkey states, "You ALL win Beaver Idol! You have made history tonight!" The crowd goes wild!

Meanwhile, goose, moose, and chipmunk were having tea in London when they heard the news. The jingle, "Hat in the Mirror" was a hit around the world. People from Asia to Antartica were buying the Maple Leaf hats because of the Beaver Idol jingle. Animals from all over the world were moved to make a change...not only with their hat. They were inspiried by the song to come together and help the world!
