Progressive Story 36
Your class will be writing ONE group paragraph(s) for the story (not each student). The first class will write the intro paragraph(s). Then the next class will read the paragraph(s) and decide how they want to continue the story. This will continue until the last class on the list writes the ending and gives the story a title. Your paragraph(s) will be typed onto this Wiki page. You will also need to send (email as .jpg) the 3 pictures to me. The pictures should illustrate events in the section that your class wrote.

Please visit the Instructions Page for more information.

If you would like to share any contact information please feel free to add it to the chart. This way your classes have a chance to actually "meet" some of the students that collaborate on their story.

Please feel free to make corrections to your name/school/location or add the names of teachers if you are working with someone on this project.

Title (given by the last class to write): Jo Jo's Mystery

Type your story here:
It was a pitch black night with a full moon shining bright. Jo Jo was in his room doing his homework and heard a creepy noise from the yard. It scared him so much, he dropped his pencil. While picking up his pencil, he glanced out his window to investigate the sound and saw a mysterious figure in black. His heart started beating faster than the rain pounding on the roof. The next thing he knew, his bedroom door creaked; he turned to look but no one was there. He was starting to think it was just his imagination. When he looked back out the window, he couldn’t believe his eyes, the figure was gone!
Suddenly, he heard a loud crash and a dog howl. Quickly, Jo Jo dashed out of his room and called for his parents but heard no answer. He realizes he was home alone.
All of a sudden, he heard a scream and the lights went out.

Jo Jo’s legs began to shake just like Jell-O and he felt as though there were zillion of butterflies in his stomach. He slowly tippy toes to his bedside and grabs the flashlight and his favorite baseball bat. As he turns the flashlight on, he gets a rush of courage and decides to check the house. The sound of thunder blasts and the rain continues to pound on the roof. Jo Jo slowly and quietly holds the flashlight on his left hand and the bat on his right. He heads toward the hallway and down the stairs to the fuse box. With the flashlight shining on the box, he realizes that the wires are cut! Something tells Jo Jo to get out of the house! He makes a dash for the door but trips on what appears to be a kid’s toy. As he lay on the ground motionless, he senses a black figure approaching him. Eye to eye, he faces a black cat with a piece of a paper in its mouth. The cat drops the paper and disappears into the darkness. Jo Jo takes a big gulp of air and begins to unfold the paper. He realizes it’s a note and begins to read it.

With trembling hands,JoJo opens the note. In red the following words were printed ' Go to the garden'. Gathering more courage, JoJo slowly rises off the floor, clutching the baseball bat in one hand and the flashlight in the other along with the note. He cautiously, carefully walks to the back door and opens it. The rain continues to pour down as he slides out the door making his way to the garden. In the distance he sees the mysterious figure in black floating in circles. At JoJo's heels the black cat slinks along. JoJo is wondering where his parents are and his sister. He is really all alone. "Hello! Who is there?" shouts JoJo into the darkness beyond. From behind him JoJo senses movement. A pair of muscular arms come out of the blackness and tighten around JoJo's middle. He screams and a hand covers his mouth. He twists and sees the dark figure that grasps him has beady red eyes. What can I do now? he screams inside his head?

The mysterious man began to slowly tighten his grip. The man's arms felt like two pythons , and Jo Jo knew that he was the prey. Jo Jo started to feel light-headed, like all the life was being drained out of him. Then his head drooped and he fell unconscious. The man was still squeezing when he was startled by a sudden knock on the front door. The mysterious man dropped Jo Jo and sprinted into a nearby forest. The pounding at the door was his parents, just coming home from a friend’s wedding. “Jo Jo!” they bellowed, but they heard no answer. They wandered out to the garden to find Jo Jo laying in the flower bed. They frantically shook him awake. In a half-whispered voice, Jo Jo muttered, “....A man....in black....squeezing....me.” As he slowly began to regain consciousness, he explained the full story.
“We’ve got to go look for him” he said, and so Jo Jo and his parents ran into the forest to look for the bizarre man in black.

JoJo began questioning why they didn’t decide to go back home to their cozy beds behind locked doors, when suddenly a rustling in the bushes grabbed his attention. Before he has a chance to call his parents over, he trips and falls, Alice and Wonderland style, into a deep dark hole. Images of the black messenger cat and the mysterious man fill the spaces in his head, taunting him with a haunting, scratchy laughter. With a soft thump, JoJo hits the bottom of what JoJo assumes is the mysterious man in black’s hide out. While fiercely trying to adjust his eyes to the darkness surrounding him, he hears a faint, familiar cry. As if the crying was a magnet, JoJo found his sister hiding under the covers of what appears to be his very own bed. His sister’s cries suddenly transform into the dark, deep, scratchy familiar laughter that could only belong to the mysterious man in black. Arms reach out once again towards his neck, but these are not the strong, feared hands that had earlier tried to squeeze the life out of him. His awareness suddenly shifts, when JoJo realizes he’s in his own bed. He feels the warmth of his sister’s familiar touch as she whispers, “Sorry to wake you JoJo. I had a terrible, scary nightmare about a creepy man dressed in black.”
