Progressive Story 40
Your class will be writing ONE group paragraph(s) for the story (not each student). The first class will write the intro paragraph(s). Then the next class will read the paragraph(s) and decide how they want to continue the story. This will continue until the last class on the list writes the ending and gives the story a title. Your paragraph(s) will be typed onto this Wiki page. You will also need to send (email as .jpg) the 3 pictures to me. The pictures should illustrate events in the section that your class wrote.

Dobby the Lost Turtle:
It was Halloween when Dobby, our class pet turtle, mysteriously disappeared. A couple of months earlier, two of our classmates, Clarise and Bob found the turtle in a pond close to our school. The turtle was injured and our teacher allowed us to keep him as long as we promised to study him and take care of him. We grew very close to him and he became part of our class family. We named him Dobby, from the second Harry Potter book, the Chamber of Secrets. “I think it is a perfect name” exclaimed Bob. Our teacher has been reading the series to us and we all had Harry Potter on our minds. We decided to dress up as Harry Potter characters this year on Halloween. The entire class was excited and were counting down the days to Halloween. Clarise and Bob volunteered to include Dobby by decorating his tank to look like Hogwarts. On the morning of Halloween, Clarise and Bob peered into Dobby’s tank and discovered he was missing!
Clarise and Bob looked everywhere. They looked in the cubbies, in the trash, under the tables and chairs, but didn't find him. They searched in other classes, outside and in the gym. They even looked in the bathrooms. Bob and Clarise checked his tank again, but didn't find him. They were miserable. They went around the school and asked the music teacher, art teacher and all the classroom teachers if they saw Dobby. No one saw him, but the music teacher said she would help search for him. Clarise and Bob went back to the classroom and checked the tank again. This time they saw water drops on the floor by the tank. "A clue," they said. They started to follow the water drops.
As they followed the water drops, it led them out of the classroom, into the hallway, and into the janitor’s closet. Then, unexpectedly the water drops stopped. Bob and Clarise opened the janitor’s closet and out popped a rat. “Ahhh!” they both screamed. At the same time they spotted a spiderman mask and there was something inside of it. They thought it was Dobby, but instead it was a video camera. The students decided to take it back to class.
The class watched the video from the camera. The person walked down the hall recording the kids in their costumes. He walked in our classroom and took Dobby out of his tank to play with him. Dobby was walking around the classroom when the lunch bell rang. The next thing they saw in the video were more kids walking in the hall. Bob and Clarise saw something moving suspiciously toward the door that goes to the playground. The class yelled "Look There's Dobby!"
On the video was Bob’s younger brother, Max. Bob knew that Max had a pet turtle when he was five. Now he is six years old. It was Max on the video! Clarise said, “Max must think Dobby is his old pet turtle!” Bob said, “That’s a problem. Max never gives up something that he wants.” The music teacher came back into the classroom.
The students asked to go out to the playground. They saw Dobby sitting on a swing. Max must have left Dobby there over lunch and was planning to come back and play with him after lunch.
Max came back out of school wearing his Spiderman costume. Clairse asked Max, “Why did you take Dobby?” He said, “I lost my pet turtle when I was in Kindergarten and I want it back”. The music teacher walked over. The music teacher said, “Max, I found a turtle in the music room last year and I wasn’t sure whose it was, so I took it home to care for it.” Max said, “Really? Thank you!” The music teacher said, “I’ll bring it back tomorrow.” Max said, “I’m sorry I took Dobby.”
The classroom teacher came out and asked, “What is going on? Did you find Dobby?” Bob said, “Yes we did. Our magical Dobby disappeared and here he is on the swing.” The teacher congratulated the students and told them they were great detectives. The students went back into the classroom, had their Harry Potter Halloween party, and Bob and Clairse said, “This was a really magical day!”
