If you would like to share information about you: email address, Skype name, Twitter name, etc., please feel free to add it to the chart. Some teachers mentioned that they would like to actually "meet" some of the students that work on their story.

Your class will be writing ONE group paragraph(s) for the story (not each student). The first class will write the intro paragraph(s). Then the next class will read the paragraph(s) and decide how they want to continue the story. This will continue until the last class on the list writes the ending and gives the story a title. Your paragraph(s) will be typed onto this Wiki page. You will also need to send (email as .jpg) the 3 pictures to me. The pictures should illustrate events in the section that your class wrote. Illustrations can be drawn and photographed or created using a computer program such as Kidpix.

Here's the story......
Blacky the Hero
As she was pulling up her covers, Jordan was thinking about one of the most interesting days that she'd ever had. Earlier that morning Danny, her next door neighbor, asked her to go to Sunsurf Beach. They wanted to go fishing at the dock, but they needed a ride. Brady, Danny's teenage brother, agreed to give them a lift in his green Jeep. So, they gathered all of their fishing equipment and beach gear and they loaded it up in the back. When they were pulling down the gravel driveway, Blacky jumped in!

Brady went fishing with the two adventure seekers. The sun was blazing in the brilliant blue sky. They'd only caught a few fish and were getting discouraged, until Danny reeled in a baby shark. Everyone was so caught up in the excitement of the moment, that they didn't realize that Blacky had vanished. How could a black lab have disappeared on a white sandy beach?

Down the beach they went exploring to find Jordan's canine pal. They heard him barking and they sprinted as fast as they could to see what all of the commotion was about. As soon as they found Blacky, they saw why he had taken off. A small cluster of sea turtle eggs were behind the sand dune.

Jordan, Danny and Brady went over the sand dune. The eggs were small, they were greyish and they could fit in the palm of your hand. Suddenly a small button head emerged from a shell. The rest of the cute little turtle came out from the inside of the shell. Within minutes the entire group of eggs had hatched. The turtles rested for a while, dried out, and then they began to make their way to the ocean.

On their journey to the sea the turtles faced many dangers. Birds were trying to eat the turtles! Blacky become very concerned, he started to pick up the turtles in his mouth, carry them down the beach and release them into the water. Just when the kids thought the turtles would be safe they realized there was a bigger danger in the sea. Shark fins started to come closer to the shore.

Blacky sensed danger so he barked loudly at the fins that were coming close to shore. He scared four turtles away from the sandy beach toward some palm trees near the ocean.

While Blacky was barking Danny and Brady noticed the fins again, but Jordan didn’t. Jordan heard Blacky bark and put on her diving suit so she could try to save the turtles. She went into the water and when Danny and Brady saw her they panicked. They were yelling and running into the waves to try to stop her. The shark noticed her and thought she was a large fish.

As Jordan reached down into the sandy ocean floor to try to help the turtles the shark tried to bite her but he missed her and got one little turtle instead. Just then a squid distracted the shark and he swam off after it. Jordan’s heart pounded so fast as she quickly swam back to shore. A wave came splashing over her, she swallowed some salt water, and she started to drown.

Danny and Brady looked for a rope to try to save Jordan. They did not see one but they did see a lifeguard. Both boys ran screaming and shouting, “HELP! HELP! OUR FRIEND IS DROWNING!” The waves were getting bigger and bigger. The lifeguard tried and tried to get to her but the waves kept coming and they kept getting bigger and it was too hard to swim. Danny and Brady began to really panic.

Just then Blacky sprang into action. He went running top speed into the water. Blacky was a very strong dog. He fought the waves and finally got to Jordan. Jordan grabbed onto Blacky for dear life. As they tried to reach the shore, they kept getting pushed under. Finally they reached the shore, but Jordan had been in the water too long. She was not responding.

As Blacky shook the water from his fur, the lifeguard, Danny and Brady sped into action. They quickly carried her away from the breaking waves. Blacky followed. Water came out of Jordan’s mouth, but she was still not conscious. While the lifeguard did CPR, Blacky began to run in circles barking at the lifeguard’s backpack. Looking inside Danny found a cell phone. Brady immediately called 911. “Help! We need an ambulance at Sunsurf Beach. Our friend Jordan is not breathing.”

“We will send an ambulance right there!”

Miles from the ocean they could hear the ambulance rushing toward them as fast as a racecar.

Blacky could sense Jordan was in great danger. Blacky jumped on her chest. Suddenly Jordan spit out some sea water and gasped for breath. As her eyes opened Blacky licked her face. “Good boy!” whispered Jordan.

Although Jordan seemed fine the medics put her on the stretcher to get checked by the doctors. Quick as a wink the ambulance arrived at the hospital. Jordan was examined and released. As she fell asleep that night she knew how lucky she was to have Blacky as a pet. Blacky saved the day. He was a true hero!
